All divers in our program dive as part of the USA and AAU registered team Sun Devil Divers. (AAU - Amateur Athletic Union).

All divers must be a registered member of USA Diving and AAU. These are a secondary insurance coverage, which means that it only takes effect if your primary insurance runs out. The costs per year for USA Diving is $75.00 for Junior Olympic (Competitive), $25.00 for Future Champions (Athlete) and $14.00 for AAU.  Both insurances are due prior to starting practices.  USA Diving and AAU Insurances must be renewed every year.

Sun Devil Divers strives to implant in its athletes an understanding and appreciation of such concepts as high self esteem, personal accountability, self motivation, mental toughness, physical fitness, goal setting, respect for others, team spirit and loyalty. We believe that recognition of these concepts is as significant as the athletic achievement itself.

NOTE: Please contact Sun Devil Divers head coach Marc Briggs if you are interested in joining our team.

SILVER - Coach: Warren McElroy

Our Silver members are at an intermediate level and beyond the beginner stage but not ready for Gold. This program continues teaching the fundamentals started in the beginning class in Future Champions and Bronze, but the speed of the progressions increases and the skills become more complex. The trampoline and spotting belts are used more extensively, and divers participate in more extensive dryland drills for both strength and muscle coordination. Typically this is the class where we develop dives from all five groups including (forward, backward, reverse, inward, and twisting groups). In addition, we try to develop a 1 ½ somersault or more in each of these directions. The 5 meter platform is utilized more extensively for line-ups as well as for dive groups. Again, the coaches emphasize mechanics and skills extensively because the goal of this class is to prepare the divers for Gold training.  Silver members practice 4 times per week;  1 ½ hours on 3 days (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) and 2 hours on 1 day (Tuesday).  Parents of Silver members are expected to help out at meets and events.

* It is at the coach’s discretion for divers to move to any level. Divers do not graduate to higher level teams based on the amount of time diving with the team. Divers will be invited to move up based on ability, attitude, mental toughness and over all potential to succeed at a high level of diving, as well as availability in those groups. Divers may also be moved down a level at the discretion of the coach.
